Our Braces Treatment page is dedicated to answering your most commonly asked questions about braces, ensuring you have all the information you need to make informed decisions about your orthodontic journey.

What are traditional metal braces?

Traditional metal braces consist of stainless steel brackets and wires. These braces work by applying constant pressure on your teeth, gradually guiding them into the desired position. The metal brackets are affixed to the teeth, and the archwire connects them, allowing for effective teeth and jaw alignment.

How do braces work?

Braces work by exerting constant pressure on your teeth, encouraging them to move into the correct alignment over time. This process helps correct various orthodontic issues, including crooked teeth, overcrowding, and misalignments.

How do elastic bands contribute to the treatment?

Elastic bands are a common topic of curiosity for individuals undergoing braces treatment. Many wonder about the significance of these small but crucial components. Elastic bands contribute to the alignment of the upper and lower jaws, addressing bite issues and ensuring a harmonious relationship between teeth.

By applying additional force, these bands help fine-tune the positioning of the teeth and enhance the overall effectiveness of the braces treatment. Compliance with wearing elastic bands as prescribed by our orthodontic team is essential for achieving optimal results.

During periodic check-ups, our experts will assess the progress and make necessary adjustments, guiding patients through the process with a focus on achieving a functional and aesthetically pleasing smile. Understanding the role of elastic bands in braces treatment empowers individuals to actively participate in their orthodontic journey, contributing to the success of the overall treatment plan.

What are the benefits of braces?

Braces offer a multitude of benefits beyond just cosmetic improvements. One of the primary advantages is the correction of misaligned teeth, which can significantly enhance oral health. Properly aligned teeth are easier to clean, reducing the risk of cavities and gum disease.

Additionally, braces can address bite issues, improving the functionality of the jaw and reducing the likelihood of jaw pain or discomfort. Enhanced oral hygiene and a well-aligned bite contribute to overall better long-term dental health.

Furthermore, braces can boost self-esteem and confidence by providing individuals with a straightener, more aesthetically pleasing smile. The positive impact on both oral health and self-image makes braces a valuable investment in one’s overall well-being.

How is oral hygiene maintained with braces?

Maintaining good oral hygiene with braces is crucial. Regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups are essential to prevent plaque build-up. Our team will provide guidance on effective oral care routines tailored to your specific needs during braces treatment.

What is the treatment time for braces?

The treatment time for braces varies based on individual cases. On average, traditional metal braces may be worn for 18 to 24 months, though this can differ depending on the severity of the orthodontic issues.

What types of braces are available?

When it comes to braces, there is a diverse array of options tailored to meet the unique preferences and needs of each individual. Traditional metal braces, featuring stainless steel brackets and wires, remain a steadfast choice known for their effectiveness in treating various orthodontic issues.

For those seeking a more discreet option, ceramic braces offer tooth-coloured brackets that blend seamlessly with the natural colour of teeth, providing a subtle appearance. Lingual braces take discretion a step further by being placed on the back side of the teeth, making them virtually invisible. This option is particularly favoured by individuals who are conscious of the aesthetics of braces.

Each type of brace comes with its own set of advantages, and our experienced orthodontic team at 33 Dental ensures that patients are well-informed to make the best choice for their unique circumstances. The variety of braces available allows for a personalised approach to orthodontic treatment, accommodating diverse preferences while consistently delivering excellent results.

Are NHS orthodontic braces available?

Yes, NHS orthodontic braces are available for individuals under the age of 18 who meet specific criteria. Our team will guide you through the eligibility criteria and help you navigate the process of obtaining NHS orthodontic treatment.

Do braces require fixing appointments?

Yes, fixing appointments are necessary during the braces treatment. These appointments allow our orthodontic team to make adjustments, tighten wires, and ensure your treatment plan progresses as planned.

What is involved in treatment planning?

Treatment planning involves a thorough examination of your teeth and jaw. Our experienced orthodontists will create a personalised treatment plan tailored to address your specific orthodontic needs and achieve optimal results.

Can adults benefit from braces?

COVID-19 update

Many of you will be aware that during the latest Covid 19 update dental practices have been given the green light to re-open the surgery from 8th June. Whilst this is good news, there are a number of procedures that we have being putting in place to make treatment safe for our patients and staff, as we are sure you will appreciate, this is taking some time to set up.

Our intention is, if at all possible to commence opening on the 8th June but this is entirely dependent on our ability to obtain training and appropriate PPE which as you know there is a great shortage of. This equipment will be essential for us to be able to operate.

From 8th- 29th of June we will be prioritising the most urgent of cases including those who have been experiencing problems during this lockdown period. We will contact you directly to arrange an appointment. This period may be extended if required.

Rest assured we are trying our utmost to source this PPE as soon as possible to enable us to extend our treatment further to include fillings, crown/bridge work, root treatments and surgical extractions, scale & polish ect.

We anticipate that it will be several weeks before we will be able to commence these more advanced procedures.

This is a rapidly changing environment which we are adapting to as quickly as we possibly can. We really appreciate your patience and understanding throughout this difficult period and look forward to welcoming you back to the practice soon.
