6 Month Smiles

6 Month Smiles

6 Month Smile treatments use state-of-the-art technology and methods to help move teeth quickly and comfortably. The treatment involves using nickel titanium wires, which are coloured like natural teeth, to help move the teeth that are usually on show when somebody smiles. This means that treatment is effective and efficient, usually taking only six months to see results.

Benefits of 6 month smiles

  • Quick – Treatment time usually takes around six months, hence the name. This is significantly less than undergoing comprehensive full mouth orthodontic treatment.
  • Comfortable – Since 6 Month Smiles braces are fitted to fewer teeth rather than all of them (as is the case with comprehensive orthodontics) there are usually more comfortable.
  • More Discreet – The braces and wires used for 6 Month Smile treatment are made to look the same colour as natural teeth. This means that they are far more discreet than having a mouth full of shiny metal!

Will I be suitable for 6 Month Smile treatment?

6 Month Smile treatment can be used to address a number of issues, which include:

  • Gapped Teeth – If noticeable spaces appear between your teeth
  • Crowded Teeth – If your teeth overlap one another or have grown too close together
  • Underbites – If your lower jaw and teeth sticks out further than your upper jaw
  • Overbites – If your upper jaw and teeth sticks out further than your lower jaw
  • Crossbites – If your teeth fall on the wrong side of one another when you bite down
  • Openbites – If your teeth do not touch, or meet, when you bite down
  • Overjets – If your front teeth on your upper set protrude outwards

Stages of Treatment with the 6 Month Smiles

Stage One

First of all, you will need to visit us at 33 Dental Practice for an initial consultation. This appointment will help us to determine whether or not Six Month Smiles braces are the right treatment for you, or if more comprehensive orthodontic treatment would be more suitable.

Stage Two

If you are a suitable candidate and decide to go ahead with Six Month Smiles, you will be required to come back so we can create impressions of your teeth. These will then be sent off to the lab so that your brace can be created using the innovative Six Month Smiles patient tray kit. This patient tray kit makes sure that the brackets are positioned accurately so they can be bonded to your teeth before the wires can be fixed into place.

Stage Three

You will need to come back to 33 Dental about once a month during your treatment. This is so we can make necessary minor adjustments to your brace as your teeth start to move into their new positions.

Stage Four

When the treatment is complete and the brace has been removed, you will be asked to wear a removable retainer and we will bond a fixed retainer (a thin metal wire) to the back of your teeth. This is to make sure that the teeth stay in their new positions. The fixed retainer can not be seen by other people when you talk or smile. This step is essential to all orthodontic treatments.

People of all ages can use 6 Month Smile braces, but it’s not an ideal treatment for everyone. 6 Month Smile treatment focuses on minor issues with the teeth and only works for the teeth that show when you smile. The suitability of the treatment for you can be discussed.

To fully assess whether a 6 Month Smile treatment is suitable for you it is advised that a consultation is booked. Contact us at 33 Dental Practice and we’ll arrange a suitable time for you to come and see us and talk about your options.

COVID-19 update

Many of you will be aware that during the latest Covid 19 update dental practices have been given the green light to re-open the surgery from 8th June. Whilst this is good news, there are a number of procedures that we have being putting in place to make treatment safe for our patients and staff, as we are sure you will appreciate, this is taking some time to set up.

Our intention is, if at all possible to commence opening on the 8th June but this is entirely dependent on our ability to obtain training and appropriate PPE which as you know there is a great shortage of. This equipment will be essential for us to be able to operate.

From 8th- 29th of June we will be prioritising the most urgent of cases including those who have been experiencing problems during this lockdown period. We will contact you directly to arrange an appointment. This period may be extended if required.

Rest assured we are trying our utmost to source this PPE as soon as possible to enable us to extend our treatment further to include fillings, crown/bridge work, root treatments and surgical extractions, scale & polish ect.

We anticipate that it will be several weeks before we will be able to commence these more advanced procedures.

This is a rapidly changing environment which we are adapting to as quickly as we possibly can. We really appreciate your patience and understanding throughout this difficult period and look forward to welcoming you back to the practice soon.
